Making Sorghum

Kephart included these photographs of the Brown family "Making Sorghum" from his personal album. The lower left photograph shows Belle Brown crushing the sorghum. This was then boiled down to create a sweet molasses syrup. The lengthy preparation and cooking process provided a perfect backdrop for community members to gather together.
